Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi worked with the Cuban Minister of Construction

On July 23rd, 2024, in Hanoi, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi held talks with Cuban Minister of Construction Rene Mesa Villafana on strengthening cooperation between the two sides in the coming time, in presence of leaders of units under the Ministry of Construction, representatives of the Cuban Embassy in Vietnam, and leaders of a number of Vietnamese and Cuban businesses.

At the meeting, Minister René Mesa Villafaña sent his deep condolences to the Party, State, Construction Industry and People of Vietnam on the passing of General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and emphasized that The Party, State and people of Cuba always consider General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong as their closest friend and brother.

He also thanked Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi for creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese businesses to expand cooperation, investment, and production in Cuba, and clearly saw positive signs in the cooperative relationship between the two ministries during his 14 years as leader of the Cuban Ministry of Construction.

Appreciating Vietnam's experience in the field of housing development as well as in building mechanisms, policies and laws on housing, Minister René Mesa Villafaña said that Cuba wishes to learn from Vietnam's experience in those. In addition, the Cuban National Assembly is also considering and promulgating many new policies to create favorable conditions for foreign businesses operating in Cuba, including Vietnamese businesses.

Speaking at the meeting, on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Construction, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi thanked Minister René Mesa Villafaña for sharing the sadness and great loss of the Party and people of Vietnam before the passing of Mr. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi said that from the beginning of 2024 until now, Vietnam's Construction industry has achieved growth of 7.34%, positively contributing to the overall economic development achievements of the country. Institutional improvement is one of three strategic breakthroughs receiving special attention from the Ministry of Construction.

Besides, the Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (LILAMA) sent a delegation to Cuba to study the status of some cement factories as well as provide advice for Cuban partners on the renovation and upgrade of a number of machinery and equipment to modernize production lines and improve productivity, he said.

At the meeting, Minister Nghi suggested the two countries' construction ministries continue to maintain the exchange of their information and experience in management and development, in addition to supporting cooperation between their companies. He advocated promoting collaboration between Vietnamese and Cuban companies in other areas of mutual interest, and asked the Cuban Ministry of Construction to continue paying attention and adopting timely solutions to address the difficulties faced by Vietnamese companies while investing, producing and carrying out business in Cuba.

He promised to support Cuban companies including DINVAI Vietnam company in their investment, production and business activities in Vietnam, and reiterated the willingness to share experiences with Cuba in law-making, especially relating to housing and real estate market.

At the end of the meeting, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi and Minister René Mesa Villafaña both believed that, with the attention, close coordination and drastic direction of the two Ministries, in the coming time, construction enterprises of both countries will have new favorable conditions to expand cooperation and investment, contributing to promoting cooperative relations between the two countries.
