Minister of Construction Nguyen Thanh Nghi had a meeting and working session with Japanese Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Vietnam Ito Naoki on further strengthening the cooperative relationship between the Ministry of Construction with the Japanese Embassy and partners on July 19th. Leaders of units under the Ministry of Construction, officials and experts from the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi said that with strong, comprehensive and substantive development in all areas of cooperation, in 2023, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of establishing the relationship, In Vietnam - Japan diplomacy, the leaders of the two countries agreed to upgrade relations to "Comprehensive strategic partnership for peace and prosperity in Asia and the world", opening a new era in cooperation relations between the two countries.
In friendly cooperation relationship between Vietnam and Japan, the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction constantly establishes and expands cooperative relations with Japanese partners, especially with the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan, Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA). Based on the important results achieved in cooperation between the two sides recently, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi has proposed that the two sides discuss and research the inclusion of smart urban content in the Memorandum of Cooperation between the two ministries in the near future.
Currently, the Ministry of Construction is assigned to implement and develop the Law Urban Development Management and the Law on Water Supply and Drainage by the Prime Minister. So, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi expressed his hope that Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism would support and share the Japanese experiences in related fields.
Speaking at the meeting, Ambassador Ito Naoki highly appreciated the support of Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi and the Ministry of Construction in promoting cooperative relations with Japanese partners, and emphasized the potential for development relations and cooperation between Vietnam's Ministry of Construction and the Japanese Embassy to Vietnam, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and Japanese partners in the coming time.
Ambassador Ito Naoki agreed with Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi's proposals for the two sides to discuss and sign a Memorandum of Understanding. He also said that, many projects in the field of drainage and wastewater treatment using Japanese ODA loans have been contributing to improving the capacity of Vietnam's water supply and drainage sector. That shows the effectiveness in implementing projects in Vietnam using Japanese ODA capital.

Ambassador Ito Naoki said that the Japanese Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism is looking forward to welcome Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi to visit Tokyo and also an opportunity for Japan to share experiences in urban development management in general, urban underground space development management, and application of science and technology in urban water supply and drainage in particular, contributing to helping the Ministry of Construction perfect relevant policies.
At the meeting, Minister Nguyen Thanh Nghi said that, the Ministry of Construction is focusing on creating conditions for Japanese partners and businesses to implement cooperative projects in Vietnam, under the Vietnamese law; there by further promoting the comprehensive strategic partnership, bringing practical benefits to the people of the two countries, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and prosperous development in the region and the world.
