Mr. Laxman Perera, Senior Expert for Asia - Pacific, the head of the expert delegation thanked Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung and leaders of units under the MoC for warm welcome and highly appreciated Vietnam's efforts and determination in urban planning, construction, management and sustainable development. Vietnam has achieved many positive results in comprehensive and sustainable urban development; promotion urbanization process; planning rural development and implementation international commitments related to urban development and environmental protection.
According to Mr. Laxman Perera, UN-Habitat is currently promoting the implementation of the New Urban Agenda. UN-Habitat wishes to further strengthen cooperation with Vietnam, raise Vietnam's level in urban-related issues, and bring Vietnam's successes in the field of urban development to countries around the world.
Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung thanked UN-Habitat for creating favorable conditions for the Ministry of Construction to attend the 11th World Urban Conference in Poland in June 2022, and assessed UN-Habitat as an important partner of the MoC in many fields, especially urban development. Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung also pointed out the current challenges faced by Vietnam such as urbanization, migration from rural to urban areas, environmental pollution, climate change… and hoped that UN-Habitat would pay attention to cooperate and support Vietnam in developing an effective urban system adapting to climate change.
On the Vietnamese side, Ministry of Construction is willing to share experiences on urban development with other countries and international organizations, aiming for the sustainable development and common prosperity of urban areas, said Mr Le Quang Hung
At the meeting, Deputy Minister Le Quang Hung and Mr. Laxman Perera agreed to assign relevant agencies to act as contact points and exchange contents of mutual interest in order to further strengthen the cooperation relationship between the Ministry Construction and UN-Habitat in the coming time.
